About the race

Survival of the Fittest is a trail race on the Capilano University lands in Squamish, BC, held on Saturday, May 8, 2027. The courses run through the local Squamish trail network and include sections of climbing, descending, runnable trail and technical trail with views across the valley to the Tantalus Mountain Range.

The event offers three options:

  • 18 km: 900 m ascent and 900 m descent
  • 35 km: 1650 m ascent and 1650 m descent
  • Kids Race: about 1 km, mainly for ages 3 to 10, non timed

Both longer courses use named local trails such as Legacy, Megacy, STP, Somewhere Over There, Hoods In The Woods, and Blaine's Connector, and cross two bridges called Darwin's and Carpenter's Son. The 18 km course includes one aid station at roughly the halfway point. The 35 km course includes three aid station visits at about 5 km, 17 km and 28 km; one aid station is visited twice. Aid stations are off limits to crew and spectators.

Logistics and race procedures noted by the organizer include package pickup at Capra Running and at the race start, an unmonitored bag check tent, a cupless policy requiring runners to carry their own cup, and a rule forbidding poles in all distances. Cutoff points are established at specific locations on each course. Registration opens December 4 at 7am PCT. Entries include a donation to Squamish Search & Rescue, one tree planted per entry, branded items, post race sushi and massage, and professional chip timing.

The race takes place on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Squamish Nation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
