Sunken City Trail 5K
Sunken City Trail 5K is scheduled for July 31, 2027, in Montour Wildlife State Park near Emmett, Idaho, with the course accessed from Montour Road. Registration opens August 13, 2026 and closes July 31, 2027; the registration fee is $25.
The route winds through the grounds of a once-thriving town now reclaimed as wildlife habitat. The course follows dirt and asphalt roads with little to no traffic and passes river and forest areas associated with the park. The actual town of Montour experienced major flooding that contributed to its obscurity.
The course surface is approximately 70% dirt trails and 30% asphalt roads. The dirt sections are mostly without major hills but include uneven terrain, dips, or small holes that require careful foot placement. Asphalt sections are scattered along the route, with the longest paved stretch around one half mile.
