Stride for Shelter
Stride for Shelter is an inaugural, community-led peer-to-peer fundraising event that raises funds and awareness for youth experiencing homelessness in Stratford and Perth County. Shelterlink Youth Services is the beneficiary and will receive all funds raised to support its emergency shelter and prevention services for vulnerable youth.
The event takes place at Stratford Education and Recreation Centre on November 21-22 as a 24 hour continuous community relay. Over the 24 hour period, participants commit to running or walking a loop every hour; the loop distance is 2 km each hour. Participants may enter as individuals or as teams and may choose to complete the full set of hourly loops or a portion. The registration fee is $50.
The fundraising goal is $35,000. The event information states that $35,000 funds 15 beds for one month and one bed for a year in the shelter’s full capacity. Sponsorship levels are listed from $300 - $3,000. The format emphasizes sustained, hourly participation as a way to generate measurable funds and public awareness for Shelterlink’s programs supporting youth homelessness.
