Stone Cross to Lug - Relay

The Stone Cross to Lug is a mountain relay race located in County Wicklow. The route covers a total distance of 49 km with a cumulative ascent of 2170 meters. Due to the distance and elevation gain, the event is categorized as extreme difficulty.

The course is divided into three distinct legs, beginning south of Stone Cross at the Seehan Forest entrance and concluding at Fenton's Bar in the Glen of Imaal. The route is not marked, and the use of GPS devices is not permitted for navigation. Participants must navigate using maps and compasses across various peaks and terrains.

The three relay segments consist of the following distances:

  • 13.18 km (Leg 1: Stone Cross to Sean Kelly Bridge)
  • 15.99 km (Leg 2: Sean Kelly Bridge to Turlough Hill)
  • 20.15 km (Leg 3: Turlough Hill to Fenton's Bar)

Mandatory safety equipment is required for all participants. This kit includes a waterproof jacket with a hood and taped seams, waterproof full leg cover, a hat or buff, gloves, and a whistle. Runners must also carry a foil blanket or bivvy bag, a mobile phone with an emergency number, a map of the area, a compass, emergency food, and a minimum of 500 mL of water. Registration takes place at Seehan Forest, and safety cut-off times are enforced at specific checkpoints along the route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
