The area immediately by the start and finish is a no hunting area; participants on longer courses should plan to wear orange for visibility. Organizers request registration by the Thursday prior so maps can be printed; late registration incurs a $10 fee. Fees are charged per start or group: standard $15, members $10 with the coupon code SMOCMEMBER, juniors $5 if listed as members; an extra map costs $5. Volunteering can offset the fee.
Loaner compasses are available. Recommended clothing and supplies include long pants, long sleeves (ideally orange), layers, shoes that can get dirty and spare shoes, snacks, water, and insect and ivy precautions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
