Ski North Ultra

Ski North Ultra is a classic-only cross-country skiing event on March 6, 2027 near Lutsen, Minnesota, along the North Shore of Lake Superior. The courses use the Norpine, Cascade River State Park and Bally Creek trail systems and start and finish in Cascade River State Park.

• 100K classic cross-country ski on advanced courses.
• 38K classic cross-country ski on intermediate trails.

Trails include a mix of double-track and single-track sections and run through birch, fir, cedar and pine forests with overlooks of Lake Superior. Terrain can include narrow, sharp turns, long climbs of roughly 20 to 30 minutes, and steep descents. The 100K uses advanced routes while the 38K remains on intermediate trails; participants should consider trail technicality and snow variability in March.

Logistics and services: registration opens November 1, 2026 and closes March 4, 2027. Registration fees listed are $200 for the 100K and $150 for the 38K; discounts and student pricing are available. The 100K has a 12 hour cut-off. Aid stations may be spaced up to 20 km apart, some may be self-served, and some aid locations have limited parking and limited cell service. Skiers must watch for road crossings, keep to the right on two-way sections, and be mindful of other trail users. Carry your own beverage containers.

Fees are allocated across coordination, supplies, grooming, aid station food, insurance and permits. The event operates under a special use permit on the Superior National Forest and requests that racers hold a Great Minnesota Ski Pass and a State Park parking pass if parking inside Cascade River State Park.
