Goathland V Trigs Ultra Challenge
The event starts and finishes at Goathland Village Hall in The North York Moors National Park. Runners and walkers navigate a route of circa 37 miles visiting five Triangulation Pillars. Entry is available for solo participants or pairs.
Participants choose their own route using public rights of way, but must visit all checkpoints in the order given before the event. Checkpoint and pillar locations, a suggested route map, and a GPX file are provided to participants prior to the event. There will be a mystery checkpoint revealed on the course at a marshalled location. Three checkpoint locations will offer snacks and drinks.
This is a self supported challenge with no support crews or support runners or walkers allowed. The organisers advise that navigation is not too difficult and that checkpoint locations are in prominent places. Participants have 15 hours to complete the course and should be prepared to finish in the dark.
Required kit includes a map covering the North Yorkshire Moors, a working compass, whistle, head torch and spare torch or batteries, an emergency bivvy bag, spare hat and gloves, a warm long sleeved top or fleece, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams unless Paramo, a battery pack and charging lead for a mobile phone, a charged mobile phone, at least 500 ml of water, at least 60 g of emergency food and a cup for drinks. It is recommended to have OS Locate and What3words available on the phone.
Entry is limited to 65 participants. Fees are £70 per pair or £35 for solo entrants. Finishers receive a medal and certificate, and a hot meal is provided with vegetarian and gluten free options. An event specific technical T shirt is available to purchase for £18. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
