Sheriff's Shootout is a lap based trail event held in Mancos, CO on November 7, 2026. Runners complete as many laps as possible on a rugged one mile loop within a chosen time limit of six or twelve hours.
The course features steep ascents, rocky descents, and piñon-juniper and desert cliff scenery with views toward Mesa Verde and Sleeping Ute Mountain. The main aid station and crew area are located at the central hub and are accessible every mile.
Race formats include:
- 12 Hour Jail Break
- 12 Hour Team Jail Break, teams up to four
- 6 Hour Pursuit, individual
- 6 Hour Team Pursuit, teams of two
Team rules require only one teammate on course at a time. A new Hot Lap competition is open to all registered runners; participants check in with The Sheriff before attempting Hot Laps, may attempt multiple times, and the Hot Lap leaderboard is updated throughout the day. The fastest Hot Lap receives a cash prize of $100.
Entry is free. Participants are asked to bring a contribution such as aid station food or a side dish and at least one non perishable item for donation to the Dolores Community Pantry. The event includes camping and spectating areas and a central hub with an aid station. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
