Sheep Mountain Trail Runs
Sheep Mountain Trail Runs take place in Fairplay, Colorado, on the western slope of the South Park Valley. The event offers three distances:
- 50-Mile
- 50k
- Half Marathon
The courses sit at an average elevation above 10,600 feet. The 50-mile and 50k routes use mountain trails, technical sections, remote forest service roads, and hills. The Half Marathon follows flowing dirt county roads and USFS fire road, with some rocky sections. Aid stations are described as well stocked and drop bags are permitted at specific aid stations for the 50-Mile and 50k distances; there are no drop bags for the Half Marathon.
Event capacity is 300 runners and a 16 hour time limit is published. The event includes a gender specific race shirt and a finisher's medal for finishers. All finishers receive a unique finisher's award; awards are not mailed. The event allows pacers for the 50-Mile only, with one pacer at a time and specified pick-up locations. Crews are permitted for the 50-Mile at select locations; spectator access is managed at the start and finish area. Permits are in place from the relevant land management agencies. Weather at this elevation is variable during monsoon season and can include rain, snow, wind, hail, or thunderstorms, with average highs around 70°F and lows around 43°F.
