Scenic Circles Backyard Ultra
Scenic Circles Backyard Ultra is held at Centennial Reserve in Timaru. The race uses the Backyard Ultra format: competitors run a 6.7056 km loop every hour, on the hour, and continue repeating the loop until only one runner completes a final loop alone.
Each loop must be completed within the hour to count. Runners must be in the starting corral when a lap begins; missing a lap results in a DNF. Except for toilet stops, runners may not leave the course until each lap is finished. Basecamp provides portaloos near the corral. No non-competitors are allowed on course, and no outside assistance is permitted on the course itself. Assistance is allowed only in Basecamp during the time remaining after completing a lap and before the next lap starts. Artificial aids, including poles, are not permitted.
The event is self-supported; competitors must provide their own food and fluids. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all other competitors are recorded as DNF. If no one completes a final loop on their own, there is no winner. Competitors who withdraw must report to the timing team.
There is a four-person teams event where each team member runs individually and team rankings are based on combined laps. Event organisers also recruit volunteers and include a best dressed category for teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
