Sawmill Ultra - Mt. Charleston, NV
Sawmill Ultra is a looped trail event held in Lee Canyon within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest near Mt. Charleston. The course is organized as three counterclockwise loops with approximate loop mileages provided by the organizer. Race options include multiple solo distances and a team relay format in which team members each run a loop and tag the next runner.
Distances offered include:
- 38.45 mi solo and relay
- 26.2 mi (marathon) solo option
- 19.23 mi solo and relay
- 13.1 mi half-marathon
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 1 mile kids' run
Aid stations are cupless; participants should bring hydration packs to refill. Marathoners and ultra entrants will be offered gel electrolytes and Gatorade at aid stations. Packet pickup is held at the staging area before the race and a bag drop area is available at staging. Parking is at Sawmill Trailhead about one third of a mile up the road on the right; participants walk back down a dirt trail to the start. Organizers advise not to park on the highway.
The Sawmill area sits around 7,600 feet elevation with typical early June temperatures near 69°F daytime and 38°F nighttime. The route passes through forest and wildflower areas with listed plant species and local wildlife noted by the organizer.
