About the race
The event is a 7 hour Time Challenge held by Saturn Running on a signed loop beside the River Thames near Staines. Participants choose their own distance subject to UK Athletics age restrictions; the minimum distance to count as a finisher is 3 km, which forms part of a lap. A full lap measures 4.37 miles (about 7 km) but may be changed to a 3.28 mile loop depending on course conditions. The course includes 3 km and 5 km turn points to allow younger runners to comply with UK Athletics rules. It is three laps for a half marathon, six laps for a marathon and seven or more laps for an ultra; a 50 km option is also available.
The route is fully signed, with approximately 60% on well made path or tarmac and the remainder on grass and light trail that can get muddy at times. Road shoes are suitable year round; trail shoes may be preferred for extra grip on the softer sections. The regular course may be changed following a health and safety review or land owner approval.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules. Members receive the lowest entry price, guaranteed entry and a medal pin at each event. Runners who belong to a UK Athletics affiliated club receive a £2.00 discount.
Finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a medal. Distance pins are awarded for half marathon distance and above and are attached to the medal ribbon. Aid and drinks tables are provided at the start/finish of each lap with a selection of savoury, sweet, fruit, cheese and vegan items. A standard goody bag and a vegan goody bag are available. Venue facilities include toilets at The Last Hop but no separate changing rooms or showers. Parking is available at Bridge Street Car Park in Staines. Number pick up is on the day at race registration and final instructions are sent by email in the week before the event. A bag drop area is provided but is not secure. Headphones are allowed and participants are asked to be considerate of other path users. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
