About the race
Sandman 50 is a 50 km beach running event from Old Dunsborough boat ramp to Busselton Jetty and back, with the course nominally within three metres of the water’s edge. Entrants may run solo or form teams of two, with each relay member covering 25 km and the changeover at Busselton Jetty. Entry fees are stated as $70 for solo runners, $60 for AURA members, and $95 for a two-person relay team. The event provides limited aid on course.
There are two primary aid stations at about 14 km and 36 km and at the 25 km turnaround that supply water only. An additional water aid station will be available for returning runners at the Dunsborough Sea Rescue boat ramp near 44 km. Competitors must be able to carry at least 600 ml of water and should be self-sufficient for food, electrolytes and sunscreen.
Solo runners may leave a single disposable drop bag at the start for transport to the 25 km turnaround. Race rules require visible race numbers, no pacers, no dogs and no outside assistance except at official aid stations. Competitors should bring a weatherproof jacket for possible bad weather. Used cups and bottles must be placed in bins before returning to the course.
All finishers receive an award and major prizes are given for first through third male female and team. The event is listed by the Australian Ultra Runners Association and carries public liability insurance through AURA; personal injury coverage is the responsibility of each entrant.
