About the race
Sandman 50 is a 50 km beach running event that follows the ocean edge from Old Dunsborough boat ramp to Busselton Jetty and back, with the nominal race line within three metres of the water’s edge. The event is scheduled for Saturday 23 January 2027 and takes place on the beach at low tide under a full moon.
Entrants may run solo or as a relay team of two, with each relay leg approximately 25 km and the changeover at Busselton Jetty. Entry fees listed are $70 for solo runners ($60 for AURA members) and $95 for a two-person relay team. Sandman 50 is listed by the Australian Ultra Runners Association.
Aid stations provide water only: two on course (at about 14 km/36 km and at the 25 km turnaround) and an additional water point at the Dunsborough Sea Rescue boat ramp (around 44 km) for returning runners. Competitors should be self-sufficient for food, electrolytes and sunscreen; aid stations hold emergency supplies only. Drop bags for solo runners are transported to the 25 km turnaround if packed in a single disposable bag clearly marked with the race number.
Safety and race rules include carrying at least 600 ml of water, wearing a visible race number on the front, using a headlamp with a beam of at least 50 metres when running in darkness, no pacers, no dogs, and no on-course assistance outside official aid stations. Mobile phone coverage exists across the course. Refund and withdrawal rules apply with a full refund minus a $25 admin fee if withdrawn more than 14 days before the race.
