Running Up for Air Staunton Rocks
The event takes place at Staunton State Park in Pine, Colorado on March 12 and 13, 2027. It uses a newly designed marked loop of about 4.6 miles that runs on single track trails through pine and aspen forest. Each lap gains roughly 1,000 feet. Because the event is held in late winter, the route is often snow or ice covered and can present winter mountain conditions.
Runners complete as many laps as possible in a set time. Runners alternate direction on each loop. The event offers multiple timed formats and team options:
- 24 hour individual and team options
- 12 hour individual and two person team
- 6 hour individual formats
- 3 hour individual format
Teams determine lap rotation but only one team member may be on course at a time for team formats.
Proceeds are directed to selected nonprofit partners: Conservation Colorado Education Fund and Western Resource Advocates. Fundraising is encouraged and tied to incentives at fundraising levels of $250, $500, and $1,000. If a runner raises ten times their registration fee they will receive a refund of their registration payment. Each registered participant receives a referral code; three successful referrals generate an automatic partial refund. The organizer follows a minimal footprint philosophy and uses the event to share science based material about air quality.
If fewer than 20 individual entrants register for the 24 hour individual event by March 7, 2027, that portion may be canceled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
