About the race
Run or Hike for Palestine is a fundraiser held at Koedoeslaagte Trail Park near Parys in the Vredefort Dome UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event offers trail options of 5 km and 11 km, with medals for all finishers and proceeds donated to Gift of the Givers.
The 5 km Likkewaan/Rooikat route runs in the lower part of Koedoeslaagte, includes one climb, and follows riverfront sections with shade. Route highlights named by the organiser include the Donga, the Grootklip, Oom Hansie se Huis, the Ball Bearing Climb, the rapids, Die Spookhuis, and the Otter Trail.
The 11 km Koedoe route covers riverfront, flat lands, and mountain sections, with a kloof-hike along the Skilpad Trail and a viewpoint of the Vredefort Dome at Koedoe Maintain (1618 m). Elevation is listed as 151 m for the 5 km and 430 m for the 11 km.
Entry fees are listed by category with portions donated to charity: 5 km adult R180 (R60 to Gift of the Givers) and child R150 (R50 to Gift of the Givers); 11 km adult R250 (R80 to Gift of the Givers) and child R200 (R70 to Gift of the Givers). Late or race-day entries incur an additional fee.
