Royal Oaks Sunrise Trail Race - Kirksville, MO
The Royal Oaks Sunrise Trail Race takes place on August 22, 2026 in Kirksville, Missouri. The event includes the following distances:
- 10K
- 5k
Both courses start and finish at the Royal Oaks Trailhead in the Big Creek Conservation Area and are entirely off road. The 10K route heads south along Royal Oaks Ridge and continues counter-clockwise on the Rainbow Basin Loop in Thousand Hills State Park. The 5k is an out-and-back along Royal Oaks Ridge and both routes offer views of the sunrise over Forest Lake.
There is one aid station positioned at 1.5 miles and at 4.5 miles, the latter serving as the turnaround for 5k runners. There is not a packet pick-up; runners check in on race day at the start/finish line to receive a race bib. Parking at the Royal Oaks Trailhead is limited, so organizers encourage carpooling.
Awards include free entry into the FLATS Trail Half Marathon for the overall male and female 10K winners, trucker hats for age division 10K winners and for overall 5k winners, and a commemorative car sticker for all finishers. Trucker hats are also available for purchase and all proceeds benefit the Forest Lake Area Trail System (FLATS).
The event runs rain or shine and management may delay, cancel, or modify the race or course for safety. There are no refunds; entries may be transferred through the registration system by August 20. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
