River Run for the Roots
River Run for the Roots is a 3.1 mile (5K) looped run and walk that starts and finishes in the Park & Ride lot behind Common Roots Brewery at 58 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls, NY. The course passes through the village of South Glens Falls and follows the Betar Byway along the Hudson River. About a half mile of the route is on a gravel path (the SGF Beach Bikeway); the remainder is on paved surfaces.
The event is a fundraiser for the Common Roots Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports community wellness, environmental stewardship, and assistance in times of need in northeastern New York. Donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible and memberships are offered for ongoing support.
There is a stroller division that requires participants to push another person in a stroller to be eligible for division awards; strollers should have larger wheels to handle the gravel portion of the course. Race shirts are offered; this year the shirt option is a unisex sleeveless tank for shirt only registrations. The first 200 registrants receive T-shirts.
Registration and packet pickup occur the day before the race and on race day at Common Roots locations. Entry fees vary by registration period: early registration before Sept 3 includes a T-shirt and beer coupon, later pre-registration and race-day/in-person registration include a beer coupon with a T-shirt not guaranteed. Awards are given to top overall finishers and in multiple age groups, including the stroller division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
