Rhodes Trail Run
Rhodes Trail Run is an annual trail running event set in the southern Drakensberg mountains of the Eastern Cape Highlands around the Victorian-era village of Rhodes. The event was first held in July 1989 and has been staged most years since, with a two-year interruption during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 37th Rhodes Run is scheduled for 10 July 2027.
The event emphasizes equal treatment of participants; there are no financial prizes and only a few floating trophies. All runners receive the same pre- and post-race hand-outs. The atmosphere before and after the race is described as festive. Weather can be cold at the start, commonly below zero and sometimes around -10 degrees Celsius.
Organising responsibility has changed hands over time, and community organisers continue to host the run. For recent editions the event noted a review of partnerships.
