Ras Rhobell Fawr Fell Race

Ras Rhobell Fawr is an out-and-back fell race of 10.3 km with approximately 562 m of climb, starting and finishing at Llanfachreth Village Hall, Dolgellau, Gwynedd (GR SH 756225). The course climbs through fields and tracks before following a wall to the summit; the lower half is on marked field paths or track and the upper half is on unmarked open fell.

The event is Race 1 of 3 in the Meirionnydd Winter Series and is listed in the North Wales Series. Navigation competence is required: the upper section requires confident self-navigation and basic mountain skills, especially in poor visibility. Mandatory kit includes waterproof jacket and overtrousers, map, compass and whistle; hat and gloves may be required in bad weather. Full WFRA kit is required as a minimum and fell shoes are recommended. GPS route finding is permitted only for safety, must be reported, and will result in disqualification.

Entry fees are indicated as £8 online and £10 on the day for seniors. A junior trail race of 3 km is held on the same course with on-the-day entry of £2. Teams enter free with three to count. Parking is limited; bicycles may be left outdoors at the owner’s risk. Public transport options include a bus to Llanfachreth from Dolgellau and the nearest train station 12 miles away at Barmouth.

Male record 47:20 (2006). Female record 57:06 (2018). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
