2026 Trail Party: Walk, Hike, or Run for rare
The event takes place on September 20, 2026, beginning at Riverbluffs Park and following the Grand Trunk Trail to the ECO Centre in Cambridge, Ontario. It is a fundraising event organized by rare Charitable Research Reserve as part of its 25 year celebration of conservation, education and research.
Participants choose to walk, hike or run. The walk follows the Grand Trunk Trail from Riverbluffs Park to the ECO Centre and is accessible, suitable for strollers and for dogs on leash. The hike uses side trails with narrow footpaths and rugged terrain; dogs and strollers are not permitted on these routes. The run goes along the Grand Trunk Trail to a turnaround point for an overall 5K distance. Trail surfaces are mainly hard packed dirt or stone dust with a few asphalt sections.
Registration fees include education stations and entertainment along the route, a BBQ lunch at the ECO Centre, live music and a shuttle bus to return participants to Riverbluffs Park. Parking is permitted at Riverbluffs Park only. Children 12 and under attend free. Participants who raise more than CA$100, or CA$50 for children, receive the 2026 bandana donated by Civilian Screen Printing.
The fundraising goal is CA$50,000; the amount raised to date is CA$22,794.37, equal to 46 percent of the goal. rare protects more than 1,550 acres across ten locations in Waterloo Region and Wellington County and directs funds toward conservation, research and education.
