Portland Pig BackYard Ultra - 6th edition
The Portland Pig BackYard Ultra is scheduled for 30 April 2027 at The Piggery Unit 1, Grove Farm Estate, Grove Road, Portland DT5 1GD. The event is classified as a Bronze Ticket event.
The format is a backyard ultra: competitors must consecutively complete a loop of 6,706 meters (4.167 miles) in less than one hour. Laps start on the hour and the race continues until only one runner remains. The remaining time within each hour is typically used for recovery before the next lap.
The course passes a range of local landmarks and scenery including two prisons, a set of Olympic rings, a cricket club, two stone quarries with carvings, an Olympic sailing venue and coastal views, a wallaby farm, alpacas and Portland sheep, plus historical high angle batteries from 1892. Surfaces include grass, gravel, track, tarmac and pavement. The route is fully marked.
Entry includes on-site camping for the entrant and two crew members with provision for motorhomes only; caravans are not permitted. Facilities include hot and cold water and toilets. All runners must be self-sufficient for food. All camping pitches are non hook up. The event is chip timed and provides medic cover, marshals and a formal race brief. A DNF medal is issued for those who do not finish and the winner receives a hand carved Portland stone memento.
The published entry fee is 117 GBP. Age restrictions follow UK Athletics rules: competitors must be 20 or over on the day; 18 and 19 year olds may only run up to 45 km. Entries close when the event reaches capacity or by the stated closing date.
