Pony Hollow Trail 5K
Clayton County Conservation presents the 8th Annual Pony Hollow Trail 5K on October 24, 2026 in Elkader. The event uses trail sections around the Motor Mill park area and nearby trails, with the course starting near the south trailhead.
The 15K distance will not be held in 2026 while a new portion of the Pony Hollow Trail is under construction. Organizers plan to announce a new distance and route for 2027. The trail expansion work visible from Hwy 13 along the bluff is part of the project to join two Pony Hollow trail heads into a continuous loop and to support ongoing trail maintenance.
Entry details include a registration fee of $25 through October 23 and $30 on race day. Race swag is guaranteed only for participants who pre-register before October 12; no extras will be ordered. Online registration closes at 1 pm on October 23 and mailed registrations must be received by October 23.
Race bib pickup and day of registration are at the Floral Hall shelter house in Elkader City Park, which also provides parking and restroom facilities. No parking is allowed on High Street; available options include the city park, the pool parking lot, or the football field parking.
Funding for the trail expansion and maintenance comes from private donations, grants and local partners including Wellmark Large Match Grant, Upper Mississippi Gaming Grant, TAP, Enhance Iowa, Black Hills Energy, and contractor C.J.
