Polar Run 5K and Reindeer Plunge, Center Junction
This event takes place on December 19, 2026 at Central Park, 12515 Central Park Rd, Center Junction, IA 52212.

The schedule includes three event types. The Candy Cane 800 Meter Run is for ages 10 and under; the registration fee is $7. First place male and first place female in the 800 m receive trophies; all other participants receive a candy cane.
The Polar Run 5K is offered as two age-based entries: ages 18 and under (registration fee $18) and ages 19 and older (registration fee $25). The 5K course runs around Central Park but the route may change depending on weather and conditions. Participants should expect both trail and hard surface running. Registration for the 5K opens September 29, 2026 and closes December 5, 2026. Medals are awarded to the top three places in all age divisions and genders: 12 and under, 13 to 15, 16 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, and 60 and older.
The Reindeer Plunge follows the 5K finish and has a $5 registration fee. Jumpers gather at the dock for a jump into the lake; multiple waves are possible if turnout is large. If the lake is frozen, ice will be cut away around the dock to allow the plunge. Registration for the 800 m and the Reindeer Plunge opens September 29, 2026 and closes December 19, 2026.
A portion of each registration fee supports one of three Jones County School Athletic Boosters: Anamosa Athletic Boosters, Monticello Athletic Boosters, or Midland Athletic Boosters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
