Polar Paws Winter Trail Race
The Polar Paws Winter Trail Race on January 16, 2027 takes place at Long Point Eco Adventures in St. Williams, near Turkey Point on the shores of Lake Erie. The event uses single and double track trails with climbing sections, rollers, narrow edge sections and bridges across a 5k loop.
The event offers these distances:
- 5K
- 10K (two loops)
- 25K (five loops)
- Canicross options including a 5K dog run and 10K canicross
This is a dog-friendly event with a separate wave and dog swag. Only the 5K and 10K allow dogs; dogs are not permitted in the 25K. Dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet, retractable leashes are prohibited, handlers must pick up after their dogs, and aggressive or dog-reactive animals should not participate. Dogs must be kept on leash before, during and after the race, and owners should ensure dogs are dressed appropriately for cold weather. Extended exposure in temperatures of -10C or below is not recommended. The race director may restrict dog participation for safety.
Safety and logistics notes for runners include mandatory traction if trails are icy, prohibition of snowshoes, and a ban on headphones and strollers or sleds on course. Participants should bring dry warm clothes for after the race; pop-up change tents will be available.
Facilities and services: one aid station at the start/finish will provide water, Skratch Labs electrolytes and broth. The event is 100% cupless so participants must bring their own drinking vessel or hydration system. Porta potties and indoor facilities at the Marshview Patio will be available; Marshview Patio is used for registration and post-race food and awards. All finishers receive handcrafted soap and a bottle of maple syrup; dogs receive paw balm. Top three overall women, men and non-binary finishers in each category receive prizes.
