Polar Bear 5K Prediction Run
The Polar Bear is a prediction-style 5K organized by the Rochester Running Club at 116 17th Avenue Northwest, Rochester, MN. The course will begin and end on the trail near Minnesota Treads and is currently planned to use the Cascade Lake area for a roughly to-and-from 5K route. Packet pickup is available at Minnesota Treads before the run.
Participants choose a target finish time and start their run so that their predicted completion coincides with the event's designated finish moment. The event requires honest timing: the official clock is not visible at the finish, and participants are not allowed to wear or use a watch or any timing device. Finishing before the designated finish moment disqualifies a time. No stopping on the course is permitted.
When the designated finish moment arrives, the first 10 participants to cross the line will receive a carved Polar Bear award. The entry fee structure is tiered by date and membership: $20 for members and $25 for non-members through 12/14/26; $25 for members and $30 for non-members from 12/15/26 to 1/1/27; race day fees are higher. Early registration includes a race gift. Immediately after the run, award announcements take place in the event room at Charlie's Eatery & Pub.
