About the race
Platrand Hoof and Horn is a weekend outdoor event at Platrand Lodge in uMnambithi, KwaZulu-Natal, set in bushveld terrain with marked trails and wildlife sightings such as kudu, giraffe, eland, nyala, impala and occasional python. Activities run across two days and include staged trail runs, mountain bike routes, and a guided full moon walk that passes monuments related to the historic Battle of Platrand.
Trail and ride options include:
- 21 km run on day 1
- 11 km shorter run option on day 1
- 10 km run on day 2
- 40 km mountain bike ride on day 1
- 20 km mountain bike ride on day 2
Entry options include single-day and two-day packages, couple packages with lodge accommodation and meals, local participant packages without accommodation, and team entries for specific classes. Many packages include on-site medical support, live entertainment, and a complimentary goodie bag for some entries. Saturday evening features a food market called Wildskos with game dishes and vendors, and the weekend concludes with an awards ceremony for the top three in each category. Goodie bags with branded items are available separately. The venue is Fouries Kraal Farm at Platrand Lodge and some packages include lodge rooms and meals over the weekend.
