Pierewaai Trail Winter edition
The Pierewaai Trail runs trail and beach routes along the Dutch North Sea coast with multiple distance options and a small scale, personal organization. The winter edition uses Strandpaviljoen Zeezicht in IJmuiden aan Zee as start and finish location and the ultra routes start near Strandpaviljoen Noord Noord West in Hoek van Holland. Facilities at Zeezicht include race number distribution, changing rooms, baggage storage, toilets and showers, plus coffee, tea and a simple breakfast after the finish.
Navigation is by GPS tracks; there is no route signage. Tracks in .gpx format are trial run and sent to participants about one week before the event. Many distances are self supporting; there are no public water taps on course. Depending on distance there are aid posts with opening times based on an assumed pace, and dropbags are accepted for specific ultra aid stations.
Timekeeping is manual at the finish and there is an option to start within a free start window without time registration for those focused on the experience. Results are published on uitslagen.nl and longer distances are reported to ITRA, UTMB and DÜV where applicable. The event promotes sustainability, including optional medals and encouragement to bring personal cups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
