Peavine Falls & Climbs 5K
This event is a 5K trail race at Oak Mountain State Park, starting and finishing at the Peavine Falls parking area in Pelham, AL. The course begins on a service road, then drops sharply downhill before a short climb beyond a bridge. Runners move onto pinestraw-covered singletrack that crests a ridge and leads into a flowing descent toward the Peavine Gorge Overlook.
The route includes a technical, rocky downhill to a creek, narrow singletrack alongside the water, and a creek crossing. After the crossing, hands-on rock steps lead upward into a steep, technical section through the gorge. Peavine Falls sits near the middle of the course and is a prominent landmark on the route.
Following the falls, the course crosses the creek again, climbs to a cliffside trail, and crosses a small bridge into gentler singletrack before an extended climb. The final segment tops out on West Ridge and opens into runnable terrain returning toward the parking area.
Event features listed by the organizer include finisher awards, top three male and female awards, post-race food and beer, and participant shirts and badges. A vault restroom is available at the start and finish area, several restrooms are at the South Trailhead, and portable toilets may be provided at the start/finish if entries warrant. The listed registration fee is $31.00. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
