Paine Mountain Trail Races
The 4th Annual Paine Mountain Trail Races is a trail running event in Northfield, Vermont, based at the Norwich Shaw Outdoor Center. The event includes two competitive trail courses and a set of free youth races. It serves as a fundraiser for the Northfield Town Forest and the Norwich University cross country program, with a portion of funds designated for local trail management and course development.
Both main races start and finish at the base of Paine Mountain. Courses begin on single-track switchback wooded trails that lead to Cheney Field, where the routes diverge. The Summit race continues on the Paine Mountain Trail to the summit and then returns via the Anchor to reconnect with the shorter course. The final mile and a half of each route returns on single-track wooded trails to the finish at the Shaw Outdoor Center.
Registration fees vary by date: early online registration is listed at $35 through September 13, later online registration at $40 through September 27, and day-of registration at $50. Youth races are free and a student discount is noted for Norwich University. The first 100 registered participants may choose a Paine Mountain Trail Race coaster or a t-shirt. Race updates will cover sponsors, tee-shirt sales, awards, and giveaways. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
