Paine Mountain Trail Races
Norwich Cross Country hosts the fourth annual Paine Mountain Trail Races at the Shaw Outdoor Center in Northfield, Vermont on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The event supports the Norwich University cross country program and contributes funds to continued development of the university home cross country course introduced in 2023, with a portion of proceeds designated for trail development in the Town of Northfield.
Two primary race options are offered, plus youth events:
- 7+ mile Paine Summit race
- 6 km Anchor Challenge race (includes a 4-person team competition option)
Youth races, ranging from 200 meters up to a mile, are free. The Anchor Challenge team competition is open to Norwich ROTC, military specialty units, Norwich clubs and sport teams, and community running clubs.
Registration is available online and in person. Published online fees are $35 for early registration, $40 for later online registration, and $50 for day-of registration, with a discounted fee for Norwich University and Northfield High School students. Pre-registered participants receive a special event gift. Post-race activities include refreshments, local Vermont and New England products, raffle drawings, and awards. Awards include King and Queen of the Summit and Anchor prizes, top three overall finishers for men and women in each race, and age-division winners in ten-year categories.
