OCALI 69 (2026)
OCALI 69 is a long distance event on the Backbone Trail in the Santa Monica Mountains above Malibu, California. The course covers about 69 miles with roughly 13,000 ft of climbing and spans two nights on exposed mountain trails and ridgelines with ocean views.
Participants choose one of three categories that run the same route on the same clock: RUNNER with no required weight, LIGHT carrying 10 lbs dry, or HEAVY carrying 25 lbs dry. Finishers who complete the course in under 36 hours pass, and those under 32 hours earn the OCALI 69 Dog Tag. Male and female HEAVY winners receive the Gold Dog Tag; male and female RUNNER and LIGHT winners receive the Winner Dog Tag. All winner awards require finishing within the Dog Tag time.
The route is an out and back course; each mile out must be repeated on the return. Navigation is provided as an AllTrails route and must be downloaded for offline use. Four checkpoints are located at roughly 15 mile intervals and every candidate must check in at each checkpoint.
Support and equipment requirements include carrying enough water for 20 miles, bottled water and basic snacks at checkpoints, a minimum emergency reserve of three bars and 0.5 L water, and a personal medical kit. No drop bags or external assistance are allowed; checkpoint moral support is permitted. Entry is invite only. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
