Operation Obstacle 2026
Operation Obstacle is the sixth annual Race to End Veteran Suicide, presented by Richland Community College in coordination with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care Suicide Prevention Team. The event takes place at the Richland Community College Fitness Center, College Park, Decatur, IL on September 19, 2026, and proceeds support Richland Community College's Student Veterans Resource Center.
The event is a timed, two mile obstacle course that is mostly flat and includes about 20 to 25 obstacles. Obstacles include carrying and pulling objects short distances, army net crawls, and climbing over, under, and through structures. There is a fire truck hose down at the finish area. All participants receive a finisher's challenge coin and a goodie bag.
Participants are grouped into competitive, semi-competitive, and non-competitive corrals. The non-competitive corral is intended for participants who wish to jog or walk the course and may skip some or all obstacles. Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Registration is online only through the event registration platform. A waiver must be signed during registration.
T-shirts are available for purchase during registration for twenty dollars with a shirt cutoff date of September 13, 2026. Gift registration codes are available. Awards will recognize the top three male and top three female finishers. The event observes International Day of Peace and accepts donations and sponsorships to support the veterans resource center.
