About the race
Nocturnal 12 is a fixed-time running event that gives participants up to 12 hours to complete repeated laps on a measured out-and-back course. The paved, mostly flat course follows the Lake Ontario State Parkway Trail between Island Cottage Road and Dewey Avenue in the Town of Greece, NY, and uses a 1.03-mile out route (2.06-mile round trip). To be recorded, at least one complete out-and-back lap must be finished; only completed laps count toward distance.
The course has no streetlights, so headlamps or flashlights are required; a small flashlight is included in the race packet. Reflective gear is encouraged because parts of the path run near the parkway. The event is walker and mobility-impaired friendly and notes sensitivity to dietary needs.
Registration includes a race bib, a wooden keepsake medallion, a Nocturnal 12 shirt or alternate keepsake if shirt cutoff is missed, a Nocturnal Snack Pack, seasonal amenity items, and opportunities to earn additional items through event "Earned Extras." Racers have access to an all-night aid station with menu options set by dietary choice; sample items listed include English muffin or mini tortilla pizzas, instant coffee, cookies, sports drink, and cracker sandwiches. Additional on-site amenities include a portable toilet and a handwashing station. Team entries are available with token prizes and team standings when multiple teams register.
