Nikki Cozzi-Carso Scholarship Annual 5K
The Nikki Cozzi-Carso Scholarship Annual 5K is a community sports event held at Deer Grove-East Picnic Grove #4 in Palatine, Illinois. Organized in partnership with the Chicago Canicross Club, this event supports the Nikki Cozzi-Carso Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid to local Catholic school students. Participants are encouraged to wear purple to the event to honor Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.
The event features a 5 km distance with two course options: a scenic trail route and a paved alternative. The race is open to runners, walkers, and canicrossers. There are multiple participation categories available:
- 5 km Run/Walk
- 5 km Canicross
- 5 km Dog-Friendly Heat
For the canicross category, specific equipment is required for safety, including a padded waist belt, a bungee line between 1.5 and 2 meters long, and a sport-specific pulling harness. Standard leashes and collars are not permitted for canicross participants. A separate dog-friendly heat is available for those who do not have specialized canicross gear, allowing dogs to participate in standard equipment that does not cause neck strain.
The event includes post-race refreshments and awards for top finishers in both human and canine categories. Participants who register by October 1 receive an event T-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
