New Moon Ultra
New Moon Ultra is a backyard-style trail running event held at Hold It Flats, Yalboroo QLD, using mountain bike trails that are opened exclusively for the event once a year. The core loop is 6.7 km, and competitors complete repeated laps with three main options:
- 6.7 km one lap short course
- 80.4 km (12 laps) mid course
- 106.8 km (24 laps) long course
Runners complete one lap per hour, starting a new lap on the hour, and must meet the one hour cut-off to continue. Teams of two to four can enter the 12 lap or 24 lap options and share laps. A junior and short course option provides a single lap event starting later in the day.
Maps are issued in the week of the event because the area is privately leased and running is prohibited outside the event. Camping is included for 12 hour and 24 hour entrants, and a recovery area is available where athletes may position personal tents and supplies. Toilets are provided at the start and finish area.
Competitors are expected to be self-sufficient. Mandatory items include a snake bandage and lights for night running. Electricity is not available; bringing spare lights and power banks is recommended. Prize money is offered for the solo 24 hour top three finishers.
