Narrow Way - Cumberland, MD
Narrow Way is an annual community running event presented by Allegany County FCA to raise scholarship funds for students attending local and regional FCA camps. The event has been held each year since 2019 at Canal Place Festival Grounds, 13 Canal Street, Cumberland, MD.
The courses use the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail through the steep-sided valley known locally as The Narrows. Trail surface is mostly crushed stone; the GAP is paved between Cumberland and the trestle bridge west of the Narrows for about 2.5 miles. The start and finish are located in front of the stage at Canal Place, adjacent to the C&O Canal Towpath and visitor center.
Team competition is offered; a team result requires at least three finishing members and is based on the top three runners from each team. The event includes both competitive and casual participants. The 1K Fun Run is not a timed event; kids under 11 may register free for that race on race day and participants in that entry will not receive a t-shirt.
Access and parking recommendations are provided for drivers using I‑68, with public and overflow parking available near Canal Place.
