MTC SELKIE
MTC SELKIE is a single-day ultra event held on 3rd June 2028 and presented as part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series. The organiser lists the race distance as 43 miles and the event is the eighth day of the nine-day MTC SCOTIA series. The race is noted as the 1st edition and includes recorded ascent and descent figures of 3,880 ft ascent and 3,743 ft descent.
The route starts at the Eagle Hotel in Dornoch and concludes at Inver Caravan Park near Dunbeath, with intermediate check points located at Golspie (about 9.3 miles), Brora (about 17.5 miles), Helmsdale (about 25.5 miles) and Berriedale (about 33 miles). Organisers set a minimum average pace requirement of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this will be withdrawn. Entry is limited to 20 race-only places plus an allowance of 20 additional places for SCOTIA competitors, giving a maximum of 40 competitors.
Competitors receive a bespoke SELKIE medal on finishing; male and female champions receive trophies. Optional upgrade at entry can include an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket; entry fees are shown alongside these options. The event is cup-free so runners must carry a reusable cup. Maps, GPX files and real-time tracking devices are provided to entrants, and a mandatory kit list includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, organiser-provided route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit.
