MTC KELPIE
The MTC KELPIE is a new single day ultra event on 4 June 2028 covering 38 miles. It forms Day 9 of the Mount to Coast SCOTIA nine day end to end challenge and runs from Inver Caravan Park, Dunbeath to John O'Groats, passing check points at Lybster and Wick.
Entry is limited to 20 standalone competitors with an additional allowance of 20 SCOTIA entrants for a maximum field of 40. The race enforces preset cut off times based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; competitors falling below this threshold may be withdrawn. The event is cup-free so competitors should bring a reusable cup.
Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and an emergency food pack. Organisers supply a tracking device with an SOS function and will monitor competitor progress; GPX and route maps are emailed to entrants about four weeks before the event.
All entries and deposits are non refundable. Standard entry is £90 and a plus package priced at £155 includes an embroidered race shirt and lightweight hi‑viz jacket if purchased at least four weeks before the event. All finishers receive a bespoke KELPIE medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
