About the race
The Mount to Coast MTC Balor is a 47-mile ultramarathon held on Monday 17 May 2027 as Day 11 of the fourteen-day Mount to Coast MizMal® series. The route runs from Murphy's Hotel, Tobercurry, County Sligo, to Rolling Wave Guesthouse, Bundoran, County Donegal, covering approximately 47 miles with 1,663–1,896 ft of ascent/descent reported in route data.
The course includes four supported checkpoints at Carrowneden (8.8 miles), Lugnamackan (17.8 miles), Shannon Eighter (26.9 miles) and Gortnaleck (36.1 miles). GPX route files are supplied before the event and competitors must follow the official GPX route. Live GPS tracking and assigned tracking devices are used for monitoring and safety; trackers include an SOS facility for genuine emergencies.
The event operates a minimum overall average speed requirement of 4 mph, which equates to a maximum race time of 11 hours 45 minutes for the full 47 miles. Checkpoint cumulative times are published to reflect the 4 mph requirement. Food and drink are provided at supported checkpoints; competitors must carry their own reusable cup or bottle because the event is cup-free.
A bespoke MTC Balor finisher's medal is awarded to successful finishers. The race is presented as a single-day option or as part of the full MizMal® package, which includes accommodation, catering and daily themed medals for those completing all fourteen days.
