Mt. Taylor 50K
The Mt. Taylor 50K is a nonprofit, runner built mountain ultra held near Grants, New Mexico. The race moves from high desert forest to the summit of Mt. Taylor, which rises to 11,301 feet. The course gains and descends about 7,000 feet and traverses pine and aspen stands, open alpine meadows, volcanic ridgelines, and sections of the Continental Divide Trail.
The route combines singletrack, forest roads, and rugged mountain trail with a mix of runnable stretches, steady climbs, and fast descents. Terrain varies from smooth forest floor to rocky ridgelines and wind-swept high meadows. The final approach to the summit offers 360 degree views of the surrounding Southwest.
Aid stations are placed at key points along the course and are stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, sodas, and a variety of trail snacks. The race begins at the Rock Tank Shelter in the Cibola National Forest. Bag drop is located at the Rock Tank Shelter Aid Station.
Parking is restricted near the start; limited parking is available in the camping area before Rock Tank Shelter, with better access for high clearance vehicles farther into the meadow. Additional parking spots are noted below Horace Road before Forest Road 547 becomes dirt. Packet pick up occurs on Wednesday, September 23 and Friday, September 25, 2026. The race day is Saturday, September 26, 2026.
