Mt. Baldhead Challenge

The Mt. Baldhead Challenge is a multi-terrain trail race in Saugatuck, Michigan that runs from Oval Beach to Coghlin Park. Two course options are offered:

  • 10K plus (about 7 miles)
  • Half Marathon (13.1 miles)

Both courses traverse wooded freshwater sand dunes, trail sections, and some streets, and include a climb of the Mt. Baldhead steps. The steps occur at about mile 3.5 on the 10K plus course and about mile 4.25 on the half marathon course. The event uses chip timing and implements staggered wave starts; participants are slotted by their expected finishing time. There is a race time limit requiring all participants to return to Coghlin Park by 12:30 PM.

Aid stations provide water and Gatorade, with stations no more than 1.5 miles apart. Portable restrooms are located at Oval Beach, at Coghlin Park, and at designated points along the course. Gear check bags are dropped at Oval Beach and transported to Coghlin Park for post-race pickup. Packet pickup is handled at the Community Church of Douglas. Parking is available at the Community Church of Douglas, where shuttle buses run to the start and return to parked vehicles after the race.

Registration includes priority and public windows, no refunds, options to defer or transfer entries, and optional race insurance. Net proceeds support free after-school and summer programs at Saugatuck Public Schools through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Holland. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
