About the race
Movement is Medicine takes place September 26, 2026 in kyʕ̓amlu̓p - ʔaqyamłup - Nelson in the lead up to National Truth and Reconciliation Day. The event pairs physical activity with a focus on truth, reconciliation, and community wellness, bringing together participants of diverse backgrounds to honour Indigenous culture and explore healing through movement.
Organizers are expanding the event in 2026 to increase accessibility and to focus on youth leadership and participation. Youth are joining planning teams and are being recruited to train with the organization, whether their goal is the mountain route or the new park route.
Distances offered:
- 16 km mountain run climbs 1,200 meters
- 5 km Lakeside Park route entirely within Lakeside Park
Entry and event items: All Indigenous runners and all youth receive free entry and a complimentary event T-shirt.
The program emphasizes community inclusion and intergenerational participation. The mountain route retains its substantial elevation gain, while the new Lakeside Park route provides a shorter, flatter option intended to be accessible to families, walkers, and casual joggers. The event description references training opportunities and volunteer roles connected to the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
