Momentus BackYard Ultra : Monroe, NC
The Momentus BackYard Ultra is a Backyard Ultra event held on June 4, 2027 at Williams Rushing Farm in Monroe, North Carolina. The race uses the official Backyard Ultra format: runners complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour, on the hour, and continue until only one runner remains. There is no predetermined distance or set finish.
The course runs on trails, grass, gravel, and private farm roads with rolling terrain and roughly 100 feet of elevation gain per loop. A spacious runner basecamp provides designated crew areas and spectator viewing. A centrally located aid station offers water, electrolytes, coffee, and basic snacks, but runners are expected to be largely self-supported with their own nutrition and hydration.
Event amenities and rules include on-site camping in a designated runner village for the event duration, allowance for one approved on-site crew vehicle per runner in the primary parking area with overflow parking for additional vehicles, and restrictions on oversized vehicles and open ground fires. Personal aid and crew support are permitted only between loops in basecamp. Headphones are allowed at low volume, and well-behaved leashed dogs are permitted in spectator and basecamp areas but not on course.
Past editions have grown each year; in 2024 the winning effort reached 20 loops (83.3 miles), and in 2026 the winning effort reached 34 loops (141.7 miles) with six runners reaching 100 miles or more. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
