Molesworth Run 2026 : event overview
The Molesworth Run is an 84 km ultra running event across Molesworth Station, from the Molesworth Cob Cottage to Hanmer Springs, following gravel roads and river valleys. The route climbs Ward Pass (1145 m), descends into Isolated Flat, follows the Acheron River to the confluence with the Clarence River, and then follows the Clarence River to Jacks Pass before entering Hanmer Springs and finishing at Chisholm Reserve.
The race is staged as:
- 84 km solo or relay
- Leg 1 : 20 km: Ward Pass to west end of Isolated Flat
- Leg 2 : 22 km: Isolated Saddle to 2.5 km past pylon No 1078
- Leg 3 : 21.4 km: Acheron valley to Clarence River bridge
- Leg 4 : 20.5 km: Clarence River to Chisholm Reserve
Entry options are Solo, Team of Two, or Team of Four, and teams may split individual legs between two runners. Entry fees are Solo $75, Team of Two $150, Team of Four $300. Online entries close Thursday 19 November. The field is limited to 20 solo entrants and 75 teams.
Safety and logistics notes: the course is high country at about 1000 m, weather can be extreme, and roads may be rough. Competitors must supply their own support, food and water; there are no organised feed stations but emergency water is available at changeover points. Camping at the DOC Cob Cottage is permitted the night before with long drop toilets. Toilets are available at the start, some changeovers and the finish. An ambulance-trained person with medical supplies and a satellite phone will be on standby, and there is no cellphone reception inside much of Molesworth Station.
