Mississippi Trail 50
The Mississippi Trail 50 is an annual trail running event held in the DeSoto National Forest, situated south of Laurel, Mississippi. The 30th edition of this event takes place on the Longleaf Horse Trail, utilizing a course that consists of gently rolling terrain through pine forests. The paths are primarily composed of single-track trails along with some double-track logging roads.
The event offers several distance options for participants:
- 100 Mile
- 50 Mile
- 50K
- 20K
The 100 Mile event is organized as an all-or-nothing race starting on Friday. Participants must complete seven 12.5-mile loops and two 6.1-mile loops within a 30-hour time limit. For the 50 Mile, 50K, and 20K events, runners start on Saturday morning. A unique feature of these shorter distances is the ability for runners to switch races after completing one or more loops. While those who switch distances during the event are not eligible for trophies, they are still counted as official finishers.
All race operations, including packet pickup and the start and finish lines, are located at the Longleaf Horse Trailhead. On-site food is provided at the finish line, and finishers receive mementos. Specifically, those who complete the 50 Mile and 100 Mile distances are awarded belt buckles. The event concludes for all distances on Saturday evening.
