Middle-earth Halfling Marathon 2027
The Middle-earth Halfling Marathon takes place at the Hobbiton Movie Set and surrounding Waikato farmland on Saturday 20 March 2027. The event offers two measured distances: a 21.1 km Halfling Marathon and an 11.1 km Eleventy-first, each available as a run or walk. Entry fees are shown in New Zealand dollars: NZD 280 for the 21.1 km and NZD 230 for the 11.1 km.
The course visits iconic Movie Set locations and nearby farmland sites, including Gandalf’s Cutting, the Sackville Orchard, Bag End, Bagshot Row, the lakefront Hobbit Holes and The Green Dragon Inn as the final aid station before the finish. Much of the route is off-road trail across working farmland and includes grassy fields, dirt and compacted clay tracks, some scattered cobblestone on the Movie Set, narrow sections, low-level steps and steep inclines. All participants follow the same path for their chosen distance.
Registration includes a finishers medal, entry to Hobbiton Movie Set as part of the course (interior Bagshot Row Hobbit Holes are not accessible), a branded event stein with a finish-line drink, a reusable collapsible water cup, an exclusive Hobbit Southfarthing drink at The Green Dragon Inn, aid stations with water, toilets and first aid, race photography and the opportunity to win spot prizes.
