Meridian Hydro Half Marathon
The Meridian Hydro Half Marathon is a community event organised by the Fiordland Trails Trust to support the Lake2Lake trail network. The main distance follows sections of the Lake2Lake Trail and passes riverside and lakeside terrain, native beech forest, short stretches of road and 4WD track, with undulating sections and a maximum elevation of 240 m. The route moves along the Upper Waiau River and around Lake Te Anau, passing Tui Bay and the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary before finishing at the lakefront Steamers Beach.
Three distance options are offered:
- 21.1 km Half Marathon
- 10 km option
- 2 km Kids Fun Run (12 and under)
Course services include five water stations and six toilet stops. Tailwind is provided at selected aid stations, and fruit and lollies are available. The event operates as a zero waste cup free event; participants are asked to bring their own water container. A drop trailer will transport labeled personal items from the start to the finish; valuables should not be left in the trailer.
Age and safety rules apply for participants, and certain items are not permitted on course, including prams, skateboards, bicycles, baby front or back packs, and pets. There is a halfway cut-off at Queens Reach. Every athlete who finishes receives a medal and prize categories are awarded. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
