Megunticook Trail Festival
The Megunticook Trail Festival is a set of three trail races held in Camden, Maine, within Camden Hills State Park near 280 Belfast Rd. The event showcases routes that pass rocky singletrack, wide gravel multi-use trails, lookouts, brooks, and multiple mountain summits within the park.
Distances offered
- 50K: traverses over 90% of park trails, about 7,600 feet elevation gain.
- 20K (Halfast): mainly on wide gravel trail, 1,900 feet elevation gain.
- 10K (Wicked Tough): mostly singletrack, about 1,600 feet elevation gain.
The 50K route visits six significant peaks and includes six aid station stops; much of the course has steep, technical terrain with rocks and roots. The 20K uses predominantly multi-use trail with only a short singletrack section and includes two aid stations, one of which is passed twice. The 10K contains ledge viewpoints with coastal views and substantial uphill and downhill sections.
Registration details listed by the organizer state that entries are limited. Fees include a bib, a t-shirt, a swag item, and a post-race meal. Refunds are not issued, though deferrals may be granted for pregnancy or if the entrant volunteers. The festival is held on the ancestral, unceded lands of the Wabanaki Nations; Indigenous peoples are invited to run free of charge and registrants may donate to Niweskok.
