Each loop is 12.5 km; runners can accumulate up to 100 km within 24 hours or less. Teams must include at least two members. Maximum team sizes are given: 4 for 50k, 6 for 75k and 8 for 100k. Runners must complete loops in order before the next runner may start, and a hand carved wooden feather is carried from each runner to the next as part of the exchange.
The course includes single and double track trails through the Edmonton River Valley. If rain occurs, single track sections will be avoided and a double track out-and-back of 6.25 km will be used to maintain the 12.5 km loop length.
Timing is recorded by hand. Participants retrieve a prayer flag at the farthest point of the loop and bring it back to the start area to have the loop stamped and their time recorded. Aid stations are stocked with items such as chicken noodle soup, bannock and jam, fruit, potatoes, water, sports drinks and pemmican. Mandatory or recommended gear includes a headlamp if running at night, a whistle, hydration and a phone. Porta potties are located at Kihcihkaw Aski and Snow Valley, parking is available 24 hours at Kihcihkaw Aski, and teams may erect one tent each no larger than 10 x 10 ft.
