MD Heat Trail Race - Elkridge, MD
The MD Heat Trail Race is an all-trail event held in the Patapsco Pickall Area, Shelter 707, 8125 Johnnycake Rd, Elkridge, MD. The event offers two distance options and uses a mostly single-track course with a short paved section through a parking area.
- 50K
- 25K
The course features rolling single track, two river crossings, and more than 2000 feet of vertical gain. Some sections are technical and rocky while other stretches are smoother and runnable. The route includes three out-and-back segments; one leads to the Valley Overlook, where competitors must pick up a wrist band. 50K runners complete two loops of the 25K course and must collect a wrist band on each loop to be credited with a finish. Athletes are generally allotted about five hours per loop; competitors who exceed the allotted time on the first loop are not permitted to begin a second loop.
Aid stations are located at several mile points and provide Tailwind, water, and real food options. Gels are not provided at the stations. The finish area is hosted under two large pavilions and includes food, beer, shelter, and access to bathrooms. On-site parking is available adjacent to the pavilions but is limited. The event also recruits volunteers to help operate aid stations and event logistics. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
