McDowell 5K & Fun Run
The event takes place at Camp McDowell in Nauvoo, Alabama, a 1,140 acre property on the edge of the Bankhead National Forest. The races support future programs of the McDowell Environmental Center, with contributions directed to overnight trips for future generations.
Distances offered
- 5K trail and road mix, about 75% trail and 25% road.
- 1 Mile Fun Run short noncertified course for walkers and runners.
- Both (4 Miles) combined option covering both courses.
The 5K course mixes trail and road, with both shaded and sunny sections and rolling hills with grades up to 12 percent. The 5K and the 1 Mile courses are not certified but have been measured. Timing is provided using RFID chip timing by Race Ready Events.
Two aid and recovery stations are on course: one at the start / finish area and one between mile 1 and mile 2. The start / finish station offers hydration, first aid, snacks, and electrolytes; the on course station provides water and first aid. Participants should bring a reusable water bottle or cup because disposable cups will not be provided.
Registered runners who meet the t shirt deadline of September 1 are guaranteed a short sleeve race shirt. Raffles will be held on site and entries are taken in person. Awards include overall male and female placings and age group awards for the 5K and overall awards for the 1 Mile Fun Run. Free parking is available and will be organized by staff. Strollers, wheeled devices, and pets are not allowed on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
